Thanks for stopping here to visit us at Hannah's South. Here is a little information on our humble beginning.
It all started with a man named James Hannah. James was employed by Spartan Foods for 13 years and somehow the restauran industry just creeps into your blood. So with his blood already primed for this industry, James decided he wanted to open his own restaurant. James and his father, Troy Hannah located our flagship store in Lenoir, North Carolina and in November 1982, "Hannah's BBQ" was born.
All of our restaurants serve the same wonderful award winning hickory smoked BBQ, homemade coleslaw (this is James' mother's recipe, we called her Miss Emmie or Emma) and our from scratch BBQ Beans and hushpuppies. We also have the best hotdog chili around, we call it "Mamaw's Chili."
Barbara Hilton, the Supervisor of our Lenoir Restaurant for the past 16 years has recently opened her own "Hannah's BBQ South" in Hickory and Lincolnton North Carolina. Hannah's South offers a more expanded menu with St. Louis Style Ribs, Burritos and Quesadillas, fresh fried Apple Empanadas are a favorite. "Mamaw's Chili" was birthed from the grandmother of our General Manager here, we all called her Mamaw or Mamaw Lola.
Our Claremont location now 23 years old is operated by James' brother-in-law, Ron Elliott. If you are looking to find Mr. Hannah he most likely will be at the Claremont restaurant. Especially during the breakfast hours serving up a cup of fresh coffee and there's probably a good story brewing too. This location is the only one to offer breakfast.
